In choosing to have a social outing together instead of working on the pile of projects we had for our respective classes--as we should have done--,we decided to go shopping and enjoy lunch at Nordstrom’s Bazille. Was it worth it? I believe it was.
We experienced little wait in getting a table and menus were handed out soon after. The entire table set up was quick and, to our relief, the restaurant was not crowded. There were a few people enjoying lunch, but it was fairly quiet when we arrived. Business started picking up as we got deeper into the lunch hour.
The ambience of the restaurant was casual and contemporary with a professional flair. The plating complemented these themes with clean and sleek colors, lines, and designs. Every choice made from utensils to the booth cushions fit the restaurant aesthetics--there was nothing questionable or out of place.
There was a moment where Claire-Élisabeth Jacques and I grew concerned, when our waitress forgot her notepad to take our orders and had to rely on rereading the menu to answer questions regarding their drink selection, however, this situation proved to be isolated. No other concern was raised during our time there.
Claire and I both ordered signature dishes in the starters section for a light lunch. I had gotten the Heirloom Tomatoes and Burrata, which included ingredients such as grilled sourdough croutons, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and basil pesto.
Every ingredient complimented each other fantastically. The oil lightened the dish and was a nice contrast to the vinegar, and the cheese--which is, admittedly, my favorite part of the dish--was creamy and moist, nearly melting into everything. The pesto provided a freshness to the dish that both tied the ingredients together and elevated their taste. Even the croutons paired great with everything as they flirted between soft and crunchy and provided a great base for the burrata and tomatoes.
In full transparency, I was actually happy with this dish and have been craving for more of it ever since.
Claire ordered the Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos. They consisted of lettuce, yellow peppers--which she’d normally avoid but loved in this dish--, tomato, cilantro lime vinaigrette, queso fresco, and chicken.
Be prepared for things to get a little messy if you order this meal, but expect that it does not deter you from loving it! Although you can forgo the lime if you are not a fan, Claire recommends having it as it adds a “spark” of flavor and is not overwhelming whatsoever. The chicken was seasoned and marinated seamlessly and the taco shell was crisp with a grainy wheat flavor and an intriguingly savory aftertaste. The salsa is original--a little bit spicy--and pairs nicely with the salad which freshens up any greasy or overwhelming taste. Claire notes that the cheese is not necessary as it can be a little overwhelming with the salsa, but if you are a cheese lover, you’ll love it.
Overall, this dish had an undertone of sweetness that has you craving for another bite. The cilantro ties everything together, though it flirts with your palette, and the ingredients mix well while maintaining their own individual flavors.
“Regardless, it hits the spot. It’s one of those dishes.” ~ Claire-E.J.
Claire also ordered the Pomegranate Berry Limeade Mocktail, which--to no one’s surprise-- consisted of soda, limonade, berry, and pomegranate. She noted that it paired great with the tacos.
If you decide to visit Bazille, here are a few things to take note of:
- The Starter(s) quantities are a generous size; if you aren’t very hungry, they will most likely be filling enough.
- They have 10+ signature dishes.
- The dinner menus inform you of the calorie amount per meal.
- Four dishes are Ocean Wise recommended. It is a good initiative for bettering our environment.
- The prices are reasonable for location and professionalism in ambience and audience.
